For life after UWC, does the location of the UWC matter?

The location of the UWC has been found to have little bearing on the success rate of applying to universities. Students will receive acceptance letters and scholarships based on their merit and the way that they have performed in the IB Diploma and their involvement in extracurricular activities.

What does the UWC scholarship cover?

They usually cover tuition, room and board, books, IB exam registration fees, curricular field trips, and project weeks. Expenses connected to travelling to and from the school are not usually covered.

Can I choose which UWC to attend?

You cannot choose which college to attend when applying for a scholarship through the national committee. However, the committee will consider the student’s preference when distributing scholarships.

Does the national committee have an office?

We do not have an office. Our members, just like the UWC schools are spread across the whole globe. So, feel free to contact us through social media platforms like Instagram(@UWCIran) or Facebook(@UWCIran). You can also contact us through our email addresses: info@ir.uwc.org

Do I have to reside in Iran or be an Iranian citizen to be able to apply to UWC through the Iranian national committee?

Yes. You have to reside in Iran or have Iranian citizenship to be able to apply through Iran’s national committee for a scholarship. If you have other nationalities, you can apply through that country’s national committee as long as you are a resident of Iran.

Who can apply to UWC?

Students who are residents of Iran, and fit the age criteria are eligible to apply.

When does the application to UWC usually open?

The UWC program is scheduled for two years.

How long does the process of selection take?

Usually, the process takes about five months.

Where does the UWC selection take place?

The first round of the selection process takes place online. However, the UWC selection in the second round usually takes place in Tehran, Iran. Due to the ongoing Pandemic caused by Covid-19, the second and the third round of the selection process will be taking place online.

What are the extra costs of studying in UWC other than the college fee?

School/college fees generally do not include travel to the respective location, pocket money, travel during holiday periods, etc. There may also be additional fees in the form of deposits, and also to cover visa/inoculation processes. However, if needed, UWC will cover these additional costs.

What is the application fee?

There is no application fee for the UWC application.

If I have dual citizenship, can I apply through both countries’ national committees?

You can only apply through one of the countries. However, the priority might be with the country that you reside in since the UWC selection might need attendance. This year, due to the ongoing Pandemic caused by Covid-19, all the selection stages will be held online.

What if I wish to forgo the financial assistance?

If you have the ability to pay the full fee for UWC, you can indicate so during your application. If you are able to cover the entire fee, you are also eligible to apply through UWC International’s Global Selection Program (GSP). The GSP allows you to fill out an application and go through the interview, and you will be accepted by only one UWC school. To know more about this program please click here.

What is the difference between UWC and other IB schools?

UWC allows you to have a unique experience with peers from more than 80 countries. UWC is a mission-driven school that attempts to make education a force to unite people, nations, cultures for peace and a sustainable future. UWCs with their unique locations, allow people to challenge themselves to be more independent.

No. UWC schools all operate in English and all lessons and social interactions are in English.

What language is used to teach at a UWC?

The main language is English, except for language courses.

What if my English is not that good?

The applicant does not have to be fluent in English proficiency and English proficiency is not a criterion for selection. However, the applicant has to note that the UWC schools are all taught in English and the applicant has the responsibility to improve their English in the time between getting accepted and starting at a college to feel more comfortable in the UWC atmosphere and be able to communicate with their peers.

How do you allocate full and partial scholarships?

Where full scholarships are available, those are offered to students based on their scoring in the selection process. Where partial scholarships are available, the precise amount is determined as a result of a financial assessment of the family.

Each UWC college holds students from around 80 countries. This varies by school.
